So I set up blogEngine -- http://www.dotnetblogengine.net/ -- and have it running. This is currently running using all XML files for its data storage. I gave up my SQL Server hosting a year or so ago, and so we will continue to go with this option for now. Because many of the applications I have written rely heavily on XML, this seems like a good option.
I now have a blog where I can completely control the appearance and expand with new features and functionality. BlogEngine has a nice framework for building extensions and a growing number of community-contributed add ons. So I will be adding some of those and experimenting with them in the future.
