Two links showed up in the last couple days. I love this stuff -- though I was too old for figures myself (well, ok when I was very young I knew people that had the original GI Joe's though I never owned one), my kids went through all the different phases -- He-Man, Thundercats, Star Wars, and the crazy Todd McFarlane figures.
But custom figures seem to be exploding. If you haven't been in a comic store lately, I would seek one out in your area and just drop by. Usually a sure bet to be good browsing and people watching.
Here are two links to check out:
1. Steampunk Star Wars (http://www.sillof.com/C-Steampunk-SW.htm). I love the Steampunk Workshop site (http://steampunkworkshop.com/). If you haven't seen that, be sure and check it out. But yesterday, I saw this site of crazy 1890s inspired figures from not only Star Wars but a variety of comic books and movies is pretty cool.
2. The WWII Star Wars figures called 'Star War 1942' may be even cooler. http://www.toymania.com/customcorner/cc19/sw2.shtml
This DYI Mod craft is almost reaching the point where it could be called a movement. Or is it bigger? Maybe it's a whole cultural phenomenon -- hacking popular culture with a modern perspective and a vintage aesthetic. What other amazing toy sites are out there?
