I had heard that this wasn't online, but now it's up and so worth watching if you missed it.
Begin with the 'Li Ning Soars' video and then continue with the much longer compilation of NBC's broadcast. I just hope that someone does a DVD of the opening ceremonies and what Zhang Yimou and others have achieved. Wherever you stand on the political controversy surrounding the Olympics this year, there's so much potential for teaching and rich dialog from what's in the Opening Ceremonies, that I hope someone puts together a full length documentary that is uninterrupted by commercials.
I am so impressed with the commentary by the "China expert" on NBC's broadcast that I did some searching and found a couple links that should be of interest. Joshua Cooper Ramo is known for a paper that he published in 2004 called 'The Beijing Consensus.' The issues discussed there are well worth a second look now in light of the Olympics and China's continuing re-emergence as an economic and -- in light of the opening ceremony at least -- cultural superpower.
I hope to post more later about NBC's coverage, the very noteworthy but so far at least very flawed presentation of the competition live online, and other issues that this Olympics appears to be bringing to the forefront.
